Our History

The International School of Orange County is the Orange County campus of the International School of Los Angeles which was established in 1978 by pioneers of varied cultural backgrounds who felt that the greater Los Angeles community needed a school which would prepare children for life in an increasingly international environment.

Our founders, Monique & John Mickus and Pierrette & Jacques Gaspart, had an audacious vision: to open a school that blended the rigor of the French academic system with the diverse international community in Southern California.

Because the majority of the founders had French backgrounds, they chose the proven French educational system as the foundation for our curriculum. Since its inception, our school has continually evolved.

We’ve grown out of the very first campus – a small house in Van Nuys with seven students – to five formal campuses with over 1,000 students.

The Orange County campus first opened in 1988 in Fountain Valley and moved to its current location in the city of Orange in 2015.

The International School of Orange County is on the road to becoming independent from the International School of Los Angeles. By the 2021-2022 school year, it will be operating independently from the Los Angeles campuses but its core mission, values and curriculum will remain the same.
